Malwarebytes Chameleon

Malwarebytes Chameleon is a set of new technologies developed by us to help get Malwarebytes Anti-Malware up and running on a system when it is prevented from doing so by specific malware infections.

To access Chameleon:

• Open your START menu
• Click on All Programs
• Click on Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• Click on Tools
• Click on Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Chameleon

If your START menu is empty or inaccessible due to the infection, then you may alternatively open it through the Windows Task Manager:

• Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc on your keyboard
• Once the Task Manager opens, click on File at the top and choose New Task (Run)
• In the Create New Task box, click on the Browse button
• In the window that opens, navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Tools for Windows XP or C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Tools for Windows Vista and Windows 7
• Click on the drop-down menu that says Programs and choose All files
• Double-click on Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Chameleon.lnk (it will appear as a help file)

You may also open Chameleon directly from your internet browser:

• Press the Alt key on your keyboard
• Click on File at the top and choose either Open or Open File
• Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Tools for Windows XP or C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Tools for Windows Vista and Windows 7
• Double-click on Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Chameleon.lnk (it will look like a help file).

You may also use any of the above methods to attempt to open Malwarebytes Chameleon's executables directly. Simply navigate to the following path and double-click on each of the files one at a time until you find one that works which will be indicated by a black command prompt window opening which will provide you with further instructions:

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Chameleon for 32 bit Windows versions or C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Chameleon for 64 bit Windows versions

On occasion, you may encounter an infection which the current version of Malwarebytes Chameleon cannot overcome. In these cases, it is recommended that you try the standalone version of Chameleon which is often updated more frequently than the version included with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This standalone version and instructions on using it may be found on our website at www.malwarebytes.org/products/chameleon.
